Produce for August 14 and 18, 2018
We are holding two guided orchard tours this year! Please join us this Saturday, August 18 at 1:00 p.m. for our first tour of the orchard that is right next to the Garden. The orchard was developed by Gabe Botar over a period of 25 years. It includes apricots, apples, cherries, currants, elderberries, grapes, haskap, pears, plums, raspberries, saskatoons and more – all grown using environmentally-friendly methods. Gabe retired in 2015 from the University of Alberta after 37 years as a Horticultural Technologist / Field Supervisor. He has extensive knowledge of horticulture, botany and specialized fields such as fruit production in cold climates. The orchard is a rare Edmonton resource demonstrating the many types of fruit that can be grown in a cold climate.
This week the garden market is open: Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
For those of you who haven’t visited the Garden before, we are located on the South Campus of the University of Alberta. Enter the University Farm off 60th Ave. Turn left at the T intersection (118th St) and you can’t miss it (we’re just across the road from the old barn). A map and further directions to the garden are available at: www.greengoldgarden.com/visit .
