We received a Senate of Canada 150 Medal! The medals celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first sitting of the Senate in 1867. Each Senator awarded 12 medals to ‘unsung heroes’ who have made significant contributions to their community. Senator Grant Mitchell, who travelled to Rwanda and visited Tubahumurize earlier this year, has chosen to award us a medal in recognition of our efforts to benefit the local community and also support Tubahumurize.
Jennifer Rees, our Chairman of the volunteer core group, received the medal at a ceremony in Ottawa on November 29, 2017.
This medal belongs to every one of you who came out to volunteer or buy vegetables from us at the garden. Whether it was one day or every day, we can never thank you enough for the hard work and dedication to our cause!
Congratulations. You guys do amazing work helping all the women of Rwanda who need it so badly. It must be very gratifying to know your efforts are making a difference in peoples lives. I had hoped to help however I volunteer with 2 organizations and work so currently not enough time.
Lovely to see your group get recognized.
